welcome to avondale! we are an app-free slice of life, premade-based community set in the bustling city of chicago, illinois, the third most populous in the usa. avondale is a diverse and evolving, fictional (but based on a real), neighborhood located on the northwest side of chicago, known for its mix of residential charm and urban energy. with a growing arts and food scene, historic buildings, and a strong sense of community, avondale is home to a blend of young professionals, emerging artists, long-time residents, small business owners, and families.

we are an app-free community where we hope, with a less traditional approach by foregoing introductions, to encourage friendly interaction on the fp through a variety of moderator and member run activities. engagement is at the core of our community so we recommend members give as much focus to building organic connections as they do to their planned storylines. remember to comment around on f/o's, ffas, plot posts, and advertise in pbads to help keep this place going! the joining process has been made easy as bios are not required. once you've read the rules, just go here to apply!

applying is simple. all you need is an ic or ooc journal of your choice (no numbers, extra letters or underscores) with a backdated ic post and ooc post (with comments set to screened). all pbs must be 21 years of age and your journals should contain the usual: the basics about your character including their name, date of birth, hometown, and occupation. when choosing a job for your character, please make sure it doesn't overlap or is not too similar to one of the existing premades, e.g. if someone applied as the fashionista then don't choose to make your character a fashion designer, if someone has claimed the artist or the poet then avoid choosing a related career in the arts (painter, sculptor, writer, etc).

we are intended to be a small, tight-knit community with membership capped around 50, though we may decide to add more premades in the future. while lengthy facts and bios are not required to join, we do encourage adding additional info about your characters! rejected applications will be deleted and mean that we did not feel you would mesh well with the community. be sure to check over the rules to ensure you didn't miss anything, and see if your aesthetics match those in the resource journals provided. inquiries about rejections will not be answered.

while we're skipping traditional intros, we want to see you around! within your first week, you're required to link at least three (3) comment threads, which can be from an ffa, another character's f/o, an update, etc. life's what you make it here in avondale, so the first month's focus will be on forming connections through community engagement, illustrated by linking at least eight (8) comment threads (different from your first week) to the activity drop-off by the end of the month. while no update is required during this time, we still encourage you to make posts to engage with your fellow members.

for all subsequent months, post as often as you're comfortable, but at least once! you can participate in group activities, post narratives and interactive posts, playlists, moodboards, etc. you must be visible on the fp and commenting around! if we suspect you are dead weight, we will look for participation and remove you if there are no signs of life. if you have not run the flist button in 7 days, you will be removed. we want you to be as excited about avondale as we are, so log in frequently, stay engaged, and be engaging! we reserve the right to change the activity requirements if it seems like there's not enough interaction happening to sustain the community.

if you need an extension or a hiatus, just ask! we hope to foster a stress-free environment for everyone where it's understood that life comes first. having said that, if you expect you may be on hiatus for more than a month, we ask you provide an estimate of your return. we understand if you need more time and you may not have an exact return date as of yet. if that's the case, just comment back near the one month mark and keep us in the loop!

when it comes to the inclusion of adult content in your updates and all (ic and ooc) communication, we ask that you be respectful and obtain consent to share as necessary. do not send people nsfw images without permission, pictures and videos of a pornographic nature are not to be posted on the fp for any reason, and sensitive topics should be placed behind a cut tag with appropriate content warnings. complaints will be taken seriously and all non-consensual interactions will result in your character being banned and removed from avondale.
